The CATHEDRAL had its construction started in 1704 and was opened in 1894, undergoing improvements until the 50s – like the construction of the towers. In baroque and neoclassic style, here you find the image of Virgem de Assunção (Our Lady for the Mexicans), patroness of the city.

The oldest civil building of Aguascalientes, built in the 17th century, the GOVERNMENT PALACE is open to the public; everyone can take a walk in the inner gardens with their 111 arches and several balconies and stairways. Besides that, you can learn a little history of the country and state on the murals painted by the Chilean Oswaldo Barra Cunningham.

Initially planned to display the statue of the Spanish king Carlos IV, it was the image of his son, Fernando VII, who stayed on the commemorative column until the independence period. Afterwards, in 1896, the eagle devouring the serpent, symbol of the Mexican flag, integrated the monument. Throughout the last century, new architectural elements were added, giving more importance to the column and square.

2 – One of the main streets in the historical center and recently restored, VENUSTIANO CARRANZA summarizes the whole spirit from the beginning of the century; houses with a pinch of baroque and neoclassic, lots of inner gardens, fountains and refined lamps. At the end of this street is another important itinerary of the city: the garden and Temple of San Marcos, which is the name of the neighbourhood.

3– The origin of the garden and TEMPLE OF SAN MARCOS mingles with the history of Aguascalientes: San Marcos Fair started here over a century ago and takes place every year, between March and April. Explore the garden ways and marvel at the several sculptures that honor some of the characters who were part of this place.
